Bricks and Mortar

This is a view of Downtown Boston, MA. From a rooftop view on Columbus Avenue, looking north. I am struck by, in a city like Boston, the layers of history ... one brick at a time. This view shows both the juxtaposition of old and new, including the brick chimneys and townhouse buildings in the foreground, and the newer high rise buildings at the skyline. I first did a study of this painting on location in very cold temperatures! Then painted this version from reference.
