Ahwahnee is the native people's name for what is today more commonly known as Yosemite Valley. I awoke in the darkness and traveled near tunnel view before hiking off trail to one of my favorite views in complete solitude. I painted a couple plein air studies as the references for this large studio piece which conveys not only the visual representation of Yosemite that morning but more important, the feeling of my experience.
