This painting was inspired by many years in New England, and reflecting on the unsurpassed beauty of the fall foliage in New England. One of my recent trips to the area included time spent at the local lakes relaxing along the water. The ruggedness of New England landscape often contrasts with the magnificent colors of fall foliage, and the beauty it shares with its inhabitants and fellow travelers.
I created the painting by mixing paints and cold wax layer upon layer -- building on the different colors and layers on the canvas. I added paint and cold wax directly onto the canvas and mixed it into previous applications of paint and cold wax to create new colors, new effects, and build the design. using both soft and hard scrappers for blending and scrapping to create the final effect I desired. The applications of paint were done over a period of time in order to achieve the effect of kayaks and canoes in new England during fall foliage.
