Granite Perch

I was drawn by the contrast of the light hitting the horns against the dark textured walls. Working purely in transparent watercolor I did the background first, because i knew if I didn’t achieve the deep , dark , rich colors and texture, the painting wouldn’t work. Working on heavily textured handmade paper I pooled water and poured the heavily pigmented paint , and manipulated until it was too dry to work
