Visiting Valley Forge this past fall was a new experience even though i actually worked there for six months as a living history guide during the bicentennial. The park has been carefully maintained and upgraded, and we were able to walk all over the park. We came to areas along the edge of woodlands, and there was a beautiful clearing that just shimmered in the late afternoon sun. The air was crisp and the branches, mostly leafless, were reaching up into the air. A very special moment. I sketched a little and took photos. This is an example of when my eye and my memory proved to be a more effective way to recall the scene than the photos. It was so pristine.
