My Dad took me years ago to the old Revolutionary-War-era DuPont gunpowder factory on the Brandywine river. It was very very cold, and the light was amazing.
I took photos, as my fingers were so frozen couldn't draw! As soon as i got home i started sketching and then when i got the photos i knew how i wanted the photo to look.
This was really a case of how what I REMEMBERED that I saw and what the camera captured were quite different. Trusting my memory, I plowed ahead and when it was done i was so proud that I'd captured it. My Dad really loved the final painting.
