As the Forest Sleeps

Painted from a plein air study from Monarch lake that I hiked into. I felt like a child in the forest again as I discovered this clearing with the reflective black water against the cool white blanket of snow. The light was flat and the air cold and still. It was a magical moment I enjoyed revisiting on a larger canvas in the studio working mostly from my study and my memory.
